Railways on the Air 2026

Nunsfield House ARG activated the weekend of 26th & 27th September under the call sign GB0NTH from Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre, the home of Great Central Railway Nottingham, a fabulous venue that hosts a multitude of classic and vintage buses, miniature railway and a model railway.

Saturday morning to start with was overcast but gave us enough time to set the gazebo, equipment and antenna arrangement trapped dipole 80/40/20m and Triband collinear before the rain started, which was to be with us most of the day on and off.

We had stations set up for 40m FT8 and Voice and 20m FT which was also used for 2m operation.

It wasn’t too long before we were transmitting the call and then breakfast was calling, so whilst that was happening FT8 was doing the contacting. Our highlight of the weekend was a contact on 20m FT8 with JK1GKG Japan using a portable JPC 12 antenna that we had set up on Sunday.

We also look forward to ending our outdoor activities for the year taking part in Railways on the air, our thanks from the team, Stefan M0OSL, Connor 2E0EIY, Derry M8RRF, Ian G8VXG, Mick G8EHX & Rob G6PKY go to Bishop Auckland Radio Amateur Club for organising the event and our wonderful hosts at NTHC. We are already looking forward to next year’s event.
